Struggles of a Fairfield College Student – Finding Direction
By tlcfairfieldFairfield County TutoringAt the Learning Consultants, we offer knowledgeable teachers, from local Connecticut schools, with the skills and practice necessary to tutor your student in any discipline.
Our chosen tutors bring experience from teaching students in high schools across Fairfield, Easton, Westport, Redding, New Canaan, Darien, Wilton, Ridgefield, Weston, and Norwalk. They are familiar with of the upcoming expectations of college, and how best to prepare students.
When students enter college, they are immediately inundated with a rigorous academic course load, myriad extracurricular activities, and new friendships. With little guidance, incoming freshmen are expected to effectively manage their time for these undertakings. All of these different elements make college a challenging time to new students, and even the experienced senior.
To promote academic success, we offer one-on-one tutoring to help students master their coursework, or prepare for future courses. Our tutoring comes in many forms, from explaining and reviewing challenging concepts, homework/assignments help, to the development of effective study habits.
Furthermore, our tutoring sessions go beyond concentrating on what students are learning in the classroom. Our sessions additionally focus on boosting the student’s confidence to achieve his or her goals.
What We Offer for Upcoming College Students
Our tutors host sessions across all academic subjects and grade levels. For college bound students, we offer specific courses preparing for the transition to college.
These one-on-one tutoring sessions focus on the following:
1. Contemplating the possible majors the student finds interesting.
2. Discussing the different types of courses required by a chosen major.
3. Preparing students for upcoming general education courses, such as Chemistry, Calculus, and Composite writing.
Students who work on a college level curriculum, prior to entering college, are more successful in their first year courses.
What We Offer for Current College Students
At the Learning Consultants, we recognize that many students will benefit from discussions on general study habits, class participation analysis, and time management strategies. As a result, we encourage our tutors to foster meaningful engagements that extend beyond a single course or subject matter. Our goal is to prepare your child for college, which stems past mastering one class.
Do not feel the benefits of tutoring only exist for students entering college. Tutoring immensely assists the academic performance of students currently enrolled in college. Students who receive occasional tutoring retain a greater amount of information from their courses, in contrast to students who receive no tutoring: see The impact of tutoring on the academic success of undeclared students.
If your child currently struggles with Calculus, Biology, Psychology, Chemistry, Physics, Writing, or Foreign languages, we have a tutor ready to help her or him succeed. Our tutors will analyze your child’s current studying method and offer suggestions for improvements as they work through the subject material.
Although it is often hard to know how your child is performing in college, stay visual to signals of discouragement. If you sense your child is struggling, start a conversation on this issue. You may find your child more receptive to such a discussion than they would have been in high school. If your child confirms he or she is struggling, try suggesting tutoring as a source for help.
No student should ever accept poor marks in the critical years of college. Through guidance and skill mastery, tutoring will bring your struggling college student back on his or her feet, heading toward success.
